Description

We developed the comprehensive web platform for «Arte Único,» Fernet Branca's prestigious art competition. The project covered everything from the public competition website to a specialized web application for uploading and managing thousands of artworks from artists across Latin America, ensuring a smooth experience for both participants and the jury.

Challenge

The client needed to replace their previous system, which collapsed during peak traffic moments, especially near closing dates. The main challenges were:

• Stability and Scalability: Support peaks in artwork uploads without system crashes, managing a high volume of traffic and data simultaneously.
• Data Management: Efficiently manage thousands of artworks in various formats (graphic, digital, and video) submitted by artists from multiple countries.
• Jury Experience: Streamline and optimize the artwork evaluation process so that the jury could work more quickly and effectively.
• Contest Integrity: Implement a filtering system to recognize and discard spam or invalid entries.

Solution

We carried out a complete redevelopment of the platform, focusing on robustness and efficiency.

• Robust Infrastructure: A scalable architecture was designed and deployed on AWS and Vercel, specifically prepared to support high-demand peaks and ensure constant service availability.
• Centralized Platform: We created a main website with geolocation to adapt terms, conditions, and prizes to each participating country. In turn, we developed a custom web app that simplified the artwork upload process for artists and subsequent evaluation for the jury.
• Jury Process Optimization: The new jury interface drastically improved evaluation speed, allowing them to view and rate submissions intuitively and without delays.
• Spam Filter: We integrated an automatic spam recognition and filtering system to ensure that only valid submissions were considered in the contest.

Impact

The project was a resounding success, with results that not only solved technical problems but also boosted the contest's growth to record levels.

• Exponential Growth: The new platform was key to achieving a 25% increase in participation in 2023 and a historic 42% in 2024 compared to previous years.
• Total Reliability: We guaranteed 100% uptime throughout the event, completely eliminating the crashes and performance issues that affected past editions.
• Improved Efficiency: The jury's scoring process became significantly faster and smoother, optimizing the contest's operational times.
